Reds, White, + Blue

by Erynn Santos on May 17, 2016

You may have heard of Red's Outfitters, but many do not know the story behind this popular brand. Red's was created by two college roommates looking to make some extra cash for a summer vacation. They utilized their family connections in the fashion business as well as a partnership with a visual designer and artist Greg Mike to get their business going. Business was booming when tragedy struck and Witner Milner, one of the founders, died in his family's backyard pool training breath holding exercises in preparation for a spear fishing trip. His former roommate and business partner decided to honor Milner by continuing in their venture and naming the company after Milner's beloved dog Red. A portion of all Red's profits go to a foundation started in honor of the deceased 25 year-old, Witner Milner, called Shallow Water Blackout Prevention. Shallow-water blackout occurs when a person tries to swim underwater for an extraordinarily long time, typically to build endurance. This can cause plunge in blood levels of carbon dioxide. While underwater, carbon dioxide levels fail to rise quickly enough to signal the brain to breathe, oxygen levels fall rapidly, causing  the swimmer to faint underwater and drown. Be sure to support Red's by checking out our selection in Shop Manners. For more information on Shallow Water Blackout Prevention go http://www.shallowwaterblackoutprevention.org.
